Maria and Jose Milan didn’t know it when their little boy Xavier was born on January 16th  at The University of Kansas Health System, but their son was something special. He received the ten millionth diaper donated by Happy Bottoms diaper bank, a nonprofit organization in Kansas City. Maria and Jose were given a bundle of 75 diapers, with many more to come.

Happy Bottoms started with a diaper drive ten years ago. In the video, Executive Director Jill Gaikowski says one in three moms suffers from diaper need in Kansas City, meaning they don’t have enough money to buy all the diapers they need for their child. The organization gives 50 diapers a month per child to families in need.

Also in the video, Dr. Whitney Pressler, medical director of the Well Baby Nursery at The University of Kansas Health System. She says there are a lot of programs to help new parents get food on the table, but very few that provide the essential need of diapers.

Xavier’s mom, Maria, says she feels blessed to have received the one millionth diaper from Happy Bottoms, and is grateful that it takes away the tough decision many families face between food and diapers.

The video also shows the presentation of the one millionth diaper.
